FAQ - common questions about Generals Style

Generals Style is a web studio plus a personal Windows installer for Command & Conquer: Generals – Zero Hour. You design your control bar, loading screen, hotkeys, Tab shortcuts and maps pack in the studio, and the installer applies them to every Zero Hour copy on your PC. Frequently asked questions#

Is Generals Style safe for my game?#

Yes. The installer changes only what your design needs inside your own game files and backs up every file before it changes it. If writing to a copy fails, that copy is put back from its backup automatically. It never runs anything it downloads.

Will it cause a mismatch when I play online?#

No. No game-rule files are changed. Only pictures, button labels and your key bindings change, and those don't affect online matches. If you do get a mismatch, our mismatch fix article covers the real causes.

Does it work with GenPatcher?#

Yes. Your GenPatcher fixes and other mods stay as they are. If GenPatcher's hotkey profile is installed, the installer asks whether to use your Generals Style hotkeys or keep GenPatcher's, and you can switch back later from the Start menu. GenPatcher's own letters on buttons are not removed, so turn its "Show hotkey icons on the control bar" option off if you use our letters or hotkeys.

Which versions of Zero Hour are supported?#

Steam, EA app, Origin and CD or The First Decade copies. The installer finds every Zero Hour copy on your PC and installs to all of them, and you can add a folder by hand if one is missing.

Do I need Control Bar Pro?#

Only for the control bar style. Control Bar Pro is installed with GenPatcher, and any resolution pack works. Loading screens, hotkeys and Tab shortcuts work without it.

Can I undo everything?#

Yes. Open Generals Style from the Start menu and click Restore my original files. Your files from before the install come back, and files the installer created are removed.

What happens after a game update or a GenPatcher update?#

If they replace a file, open Generals Style from the Start menu and click Re-apply my style. It works offline and needs no new installer.

Does it work with a non-English game?#

Yes. Hotkeys are changed inside your game's own language. Where a letter isn't in a button's name, it's added like [R].

Can I add maps with it?#

Yes, on the Monthly and Yearly plans. Pick from about 295 community maps in the Maps tab, and the installer downloads them on your PC, checks every file and skips maps you already have. In the game they're under Unofficial Maps. Browse them on the maps page.

Can I try the studio without an account?#

Yes. Anyone can open the studio and see live previews. To save a design, upload pictures, change hotkeys or make an installer, you need to sign in, and the work you did as a guest is kept.

Is there a free trial?#

Yes. A signed-in account with a confirmed email can start one free trial without a card. It includes one installer and does not include the maps pack. Current plans are on the pricing page.

Can I cancel my subscription?#

Yes, any time from your account. You keep access until the end of the period you paid for and are not charged again. More in plans and billing.

Can I get a refund?#

Refunds follow our refund policy. At the time of writing, it offers a full refund within 14 days of a payment when no installer from that purchase has been used. If an installer ran but didn't work, contact us first so we can help.

Is there an affiliate program?#

Yes. Content creators and community leaders can apply on the affiliate page, share their link and earn a commission on payments from players they bring. Payouts are sent with PayPal.

Do I need the internet?#

For the first install, yes: the installer checks your code and downloads your design and maps. Re-apply my style and Restore my original files work offline.

Is Generals Style made by EA?#

No. Generals Style is a fan-made tool. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Electronic Arts. You need your own copy of Zero Hour.
